PSC Appoints Six DIGs, Enugu CP

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced the appointment of six new Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs) and the promotion of Uzuegbu Kanayo, Commissioner of Police for Enugu State Command, to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG).

The newly appointed DIGs include Sadiq Idiris Abubakar, Commandant of the Police Academy in Wudil, Kano, who previously served as Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory and Coordinator of Police Special Forces; Benjamin Nebolisa Okolo, former AIG of Zone 16 in Yenagoa, now overseeing the Department of Information Communication Technology at Force Headquarters, Abuja; and Williams Adebowale, Commandant of the Police Staff College in Jos.

Other appointees are Bzigu Yakubu Kwazi Bali, AIG of FCID Annex, Enugu; Idegwu Basil Ukuoma, AIG of Zone 14, Katsina; and Adebola Ayinde Hamzat, AIG of Zone 16, Yenagoa, who also previously served as Commissioner of Police for Oyo State and held roles such as CP for Border Patrol and Deputy Force Secretary.

CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, now promoted to AIG, has held several key positions, including Assistant Commissioner of Operations in Zone 9, Umuahia; Area Commander in Owerri and Karu, Nasarawa State; and Deputy Commissioner of Finance and Administration in Edo State.

He also served as Commissioner of Police for Operations and Communication at Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The PSC also approved the appointment of new Commissioners of Police for Oyo and Enugu State Commands. CP Adenola Johnson, previously Principal Staff Officer to the Inspector General of Police, has been appointed as CP for Oyo State, while CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa takes over as CP for Enugu State, succeeding the newly promoted AIG Uzuegbu. CP Giwa has previously served as DCP of Operations in Kaduna and Imo States, among other roles.

Additionally, the Commission promoted eight Chief Superintendents of Police to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police.

The promoted officers include Abdullahi Kamba Usman, Sani Abdu, Ifeanyi Owo, Vincent Orole, Elisha Atikinkpan, Margaret Okonkwo, Alhasan Aliyu Guga, and Imo Owinizi Ezekiel. These promotions followed rigorous written examinations and oral interviews.

The appointment and promotion sessions were chaired by DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd.), Chairman of the Commission, with Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (rtd.), Commissioner representing the Judiciary; DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd.), Commissioner representing the Police; and Chief Onyemuchi Nnamani, Secretary to the Commission, in attendance.

DIG Argungu urged the newly appointed DIGs to provide the necessary support to the Inspector-General of Police to enhance the Nigeria Police Force’s ability to maintain law and order and secure the nation effectively.
