President Tinubu Unveils Updated National Counter-Terrorism Strategy in October

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to officially launch a revised National Counter-Terrorism Strategy (NACTEST) in October.

This follows an extensive, multi-phase review designed to modernize the nation’s security framework against evolving threats.

The announcement was made by Maj.-Gen. Adamu Laka, the National Coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), during a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja.

He confirmed that the finalized document has been submitted to the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for final approval.

Gen. Laka stated that the review process, which began in February, has reached a “decisive milestone.”

The updated strategy integrates feedback from a wide range of sources, including government institutions, security agencies, civil society, academia, the private sector, and international partners.

The overhaul was prompted by the changing face of terrorism, which includes new technological tactics and the exploitation of socio-economic vulnerabilities.

The official launch will mark the beginning of a new phase in Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts.
