President Tinubu to Host Super Falcons at Presidential Villa After Historic WAFCON Victory

President Bola Tinubu is set to host Nigeria’s triumphant Super Falcons at the Presidential Villa today following their dramatic victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The team, which arrived in Abuja on Sunday night after their return from Morocco, staged a stunning comeback in the final, overturning a two-goal deficit to defeat host nation Morocco 3-2. The win secured Nigeria’s record-extending 10th WAFCON title.

President Tinubu, who had earlier called to congratulate the team, approved the payment of outstanding bonuses and allowances ahead of the final. Sources indicate that the players and officials will receive generous rewards from the president in recognition of their heroic performance.

In a post-match video call with captain Rasheedat Ajibade and the team, Tinubu praised their resilience, saying, “I am very proud of you. The entire nation is proud. You have lifted our spirits—you are a pride to your generation.”

He also commended the coaching staff, management, and government officials involved, promising a grand celebration upon their return.

“On behalf of all Nigerians, I told them how proud we are. They have inspired us with their brilliance and unity. I look forward to welcoming them home,” Tinubu said in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The Falcons’ triumph has reignited national pride, with fans eagerly anticipating their reception at the Presidential Villa.
