Speaking at the 2025 National Anti-Money Laundering, Counter-Financing of Terrorism and Proliferation Summit in Abuja, Tinubu disclosed that over 100 terrorist financiers have been convicted in the last two years.

The President emphasized that this strategy is aimed at preventing terrorists from carrying out attacks on citizens.

He noted that by cutting off the funds and resources supporting Boko Haram and ISWAP, the government is creating an environment that allows rural areas to thrive.

Tinubu also acknowledged the crucial role of lawyers, accountants, banks, and capital market firms in protecting the nation’s commonwealth.

He recognized the private sector’s importance in the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing framework.

However, the President expressed concern over Nigeria’s gray listing, which has severe consequences for the economy and reputational damage.

He assured that the government is working to implement an Action Plan to address deficiencies in the national AML/CFT/CPF framework.

The CEO of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, Hafsat Bakari, stressed that combating financial crimes requires collective effort and collaboration among political leaders, regulators, financial institutions, law enforcement, and international partners.
