President Bola Tinubu has successfully mediated peace among the conflicting factions of the Lagos State House of Assembly, resolving a prolonged speakership dispute.

He urged all members to collaborate with the reinstated Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, to ensure stability and progress.

The resolution marks the end of a two-month crisis that had disrupted the House’s operations. Obasa was initially removed as Speaker on January 13, 2025, by 35 out of 40 lawmakers, who accused him of authoritarian leadership, financial mismanagement, and high-handedness. Following his ousting, Mojisola Meranda, his former deputy, was appointed as the new Speaker.

However, after sustained pressure and interventions by leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at both national and state levels, Meranda resigned on March 3. This paved the way for Obasa’s re-election as Speaker, with Meranda returning to her previous role as Deputy Speaker.

A source revealed that the 40-member House met with President Tinubu in Abuja on Wednesday afternoon, where a truce was brokered in the interest of the Assembly’s stability and the development of Lagos State.
