President Tinubu Appoints Opeifa as MD of Nigeria Railway Corporation

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Kayode Opeifa as the substantive Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC).
This appointment was confirmed by a source in the Presidency.
Opeifa, a former Commissioner for Transportation in Lagos State, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He served under Governor Babatunde Fashola’s administration from 2007 to 2015 and was instrumental in modernizing Lagos’ transportation system.
His appointment comes three months after Ben Iloanusi was announced as acting Managing Director, following the end of Fidet Okhiri’s tenure.
Opeifa joined the NRC in 2019 as a board member, appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
In addition to his experience in transportation, Opeifa has also served as: Transport Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Vice-Chairman of the Presidential Task Team (PTT), set up to address traffic congestion in Apapa, chaired by former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, and Managing Director of the Abuja Urban Mass Transit Company Limited (AUMTCO), appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
This appointment is the latest in a series of moves by President Tinubu to strengthen key sectors, including transportation. On January 20, he approved the appointment of Zahrah Audu as the new Director-General of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC).
