President Bola Tinubu has named Dr. Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe as the new Chairman of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA). The announcement was made on Sunday by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

Dr. Oloriegbe, a former Senator representing Kwara Central, will serve an initial four-year term, effective from March 11, 2025. During his time in the 9th National Assembly, he chaired the Senate Committee on Health and later led the Joint National Assembly Committee on Health from 2019 to 2023.

A distinguished medical professional, Oloriegbe holds a Master’s in Coaching and Consultation from the University of Oxford and HEC Paris, as well as a Bachelor’s in Medicine and Surgery from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He is an active member of several medical associations, including the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN), and the Guild of Medical Directors of Nigeria.

His extensive experience in healthcare leadership is expected to bolster the NHIA’s mandate in expanding health insurance coverage across Nigeria.
