Presidency Shuts Down 22 Illegal Colleges of Education in Nationwide Crackdown

In a major operation, the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) has identified and shut down 22 illegal Colleges of Education operating across the country.

The crackdown was part of the commission’s efforts to cleanse the sector of illegitimate institutions.

The NCCE also said it has conducted personnel and financial audits in all 21 federally approved Colleges of Education.

This action directly follows a recent directive from President Bola Tinubu, who ordered regulatory bodies to eliminate “certificate millers” that are undermining the integrity of Nigeria’s education system.

Speaking at a convocation ceremony, the President emphasized that his administration is committed to strengthening the education sector and ensuring that forgery and unrecognized institutions have no place within it.

He confirmed that agencies including the NCCE, the National Universities Commission (NUC), and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) are now working in alignment to weed out these illegal operations and protect the quality and credibility of Nigerian academic qualifications.
