Police in Ogun, Delta, Imo Launch Major Security Operations for Christmas, New Year
In preparation for the festive season, police commands in Ogun, Delta, and Imo states have initiated extensive security operations involving joint forces and massive personnel deployments to ensure public safety.
The Ogun State Police Command said it has begun joint operations with the military,the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun, SO-SAFE Corps, and vigilante groups. A significant number of personnel have been deployed to boost patrols, especially along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode road.
Police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi stated that patrol vehicles, tactical teams, and intelligence assets will be used to reinforce security and prevent crime.
Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo has ordered widespread deployment for traffic control and rapid response, with operations continuing beyond the holidays.
The public is reminded of a ban on fireworks and urged to cooperate with security personnel.
Similarly, the Delta State Police Command has also announced a statewide security operation,with Commissioner of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda ordering a “massive deployment” of officers. Personnel will be stationed at major venues, highways, and flashpoints, including the Asaba-Onitsha Bridge, PTI and DSC roundabouts, and key roads across the state.
In Asaba, areas like Summit Junction and Federal Medical Centre Roundabout will see heavy deployment, with a focus on traffic management.
Patrols will be intensified in Warri and Effurun, while the Marine Police will monitor waterways to combat piracy and illegal activities.
An “Operation Show of Force” began on December 21, supervised by the Deputy Commissioner of Operations.
In Imo State,Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma has implemented comprehensive security measures across all 27 local councils in collaboration with sister agencies.
Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers have been instructed to activate security plans to prevent any breaches.
The public is encouraged to remain vigilant and report emergencies using the command’s dedicated phone line.
All three commands have assured residents of enhanced security and a peaceful festive period, urging public cooperation and compliance with the law.
