Police battle to restore peace after traders, area boys’ clash at Alaba market
The Lagos State Police Command is battling to return peace to Alaba International Market, Ojo, in Lagos State, over a clash between traders and thugs.
The Command’s spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that peace has gradually returned to the popular market after a free for all between the traders and area boys.
Hundeyin, in his Tweeter handle, confirmed this in a statement, stating that, “Alaba International Market is calm. Normalcy has been restored. @rrslagos767 and men of Ojo Division are on the ground, under the supervision of Area Commander Festac, ACP Igbafe Afegbai. There is no cause for alarm as monitoring continues.”
The fight was said to have been ignited because the traders were tired of the illegal collections of money by the area boys.
Trending videos on social media on Wednesday showed the popular electronics market in chaos with many youths seen wielding sticks and machetes while people run in different directions.
