Two people have bern arrested in Akure, the Ondo State capital, over the killing of a 35-year-old man by a mob, on Monday.

The suspects, identified as an artisan and a trader, were arrested by police 24 hours after the gruesome killing of Tope Olorunfemi.

Olorunfemi was attacked by a mob after crushing a road user to death and injuring six others due to alleged reckless driving around Sunday bus stop, Ijoka, Akure South Local Government Area.

After killing the driver, the mob also set his Toyota Camry car ablaze.

According to the police spokesperson in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, one of the two arrested suspects allegedly masterminded the burning of the car.

Odunlami-Omisanya, who revealed that the suspects would be charged with murder and arson, appealed to members of the public never to take laws into their hands.

According to the police spokesperson: “Rather than people around to have helped when the accident happened, some resolved to jungle justice by killing the young man and setting his car ablaze.”
