The Super Eagles were seconds away from beating Poland in Wednesday’s friendly in Warsaw, only for Przemysław Wiśniewski to score with virtually the final kick of the game and force a 2-2 draw at PGE Narodowy.
Eric Chelle’s side went ahead in the 23rd minute when Terem Moffi provided a right-footed assist. But just before half-time, Kacper Potulski levelled for the White-Reds.
Nigeria made several changes at the break. Philip Otele replaced Sevilla’s Akor Adams, Semi Ajayi came on for Emmanuel Fernandez, Bruno Onyemaechi took over from Zaidu Sanusi, Paul Onuachu replaced goalscorer Moffi, and Calvin Bassey stepped in for Igoh Ogbu.
The three-time African champions pushed forward and regained the lead when Onuachu converted a penalty to make it 2-1.
They looked set to hold on until deep into added time, but Wiśniewski fired home five minutes into stoppage time to split the spoils.
In March 2018, Nigeria had beaten Poland 1-0 in a pre-World Cup friendly, with ex-Chelsea winger Victor Moses scoring the lone goal from the spot after being fouled by a Polish defender.
Following Wednesday’s clash, Nigeria will turn their attention to another friendly against World Cup-bound Portugal on June 10.
Although the Super Eagles are not competing at the 2026 World Cup, they are using these matches to test tactics and new players ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
