Peter Obi Mourns Doyin Okupe
Former presidential candidate and Labour Party leader, Peter Obi, has expressed profound grief over the death of veteran politician and former presidential spokesperson, Dr. Doyin Okupe.
In a post on his X handle, Obi described Okupe’s passing as both shocking and a significant loss to the nation.
“With great sadness this morning, I received the shocking news of the death of my dear elder brother, Dr. Doyin Okupe. On behalf of my family and the Obidient family, I sincerely mourn his passing,” Obi wrote.
Dr. Okupe, a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, served as a senior aide to former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan.
He was widely respected for his contributions to governance and national discourse.
Obi praised Okupe’s unwavering commitment to the country, describing him as a man who “desired a better Nigeria.”
He also urged members of the Obidient Movement and Nigerians at large to pray for the repose of Okupe’s soul and to support his grieving family.
“His death is a profound loss—not only to his family and loved ones but to all of us,” Obi added.
“May God Almighty, who called him home, grant him eternal rest and grant his family, and all of us, the fortitude to bear this sad and irreplaceable loss.”
