PDP’s Simon Mwadkwom, Oyewumi Olarere elected Minority Leader, Deputy Minority Leader, Tambuwal loses

Two Senators of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Simon Davou Mwadkwom and Oyewumi Kamorudeen Olarere have been elected Minority Leader and Deputy Minority Leader respectively at the Senate today, Tuesday.
Simon Davou Mwadkwom represents Plateau North Senatorial District, while Oyewumi Kamorudeen Olarere represents Osun West in the 10th National Assembly.
Their election put paid to the stiff political horsetrading that has attended the elections of the leaddrship of the 10th National Assembly.
Darlington Nwokeocha of Labour Party, LP, representing Abia Central was announced as Minority Whip.
Also Rufai Hanga of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, from Kano Central emerged Deputy Minority Whip.
Mwadkwon defeated Senators Aminu Tambuwal, Abdul Ningi and Adamu Aliero, who were believed to be in the camp of the candidate of the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar.
The Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, in announcing the minority leadership positions said: “The majority of members of the Senate Minority Caucus of the Senate made up of seven political parties have come up with their leadership.
“They are Senator Simon Davou Mwadkwon as the Minority Leader; Senator Lere Oyewumi (PDP, Osun West) Deputy Minority Leader; Senator Darlington Nwokocha (LP, Abia Central) as the Minority Whip; and Senator Rufai Hanga (NNPP, Kano Central), as the Deputy Minority Whip.
