PDP raises alarm over APC’s plot to disrupt its National Convention

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and the judiciary to act with patriotism and professionalism to ensure its upcoming national convention is peaceful and credible.

In a statement released by its Media Sub-Committee, the party expressed growing concerns among its supporters that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) might use the courts to either stop or postpone the convention, scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The PDP stated that these fears are grounded in the APC’s “antecedents,” alleging a possibility that “inter- and intra-party destructive elements” could be used to thwart the event.

The party warned that these individuals, serving the “selfish interests of their masters in the APC,” would eventually face nemesis.

The committee framed these alleged actions as part of a broader plan to manipulate the 2027 general elections and establish a one-party state, which would pave the way for dictatorship.

Specific concerns were also raised about the potential misuse of the Nigeria Police Force to disrupt the convention.

The statement highlighted “genuine fears” that the police, being “vulnerable to manipulation by those in power,” could be used to disperse or delay the lawful political assembly.

While the PDP affirmed its confidence in the new INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, it vowed to closely monitor the commission’s conduct throughout the process.

The sub-committee ended with an appeal to party members for unity, resilience, and loyalty, urging them to safeguard the party’s legacy and prevent anything from derailing the convention.
