PDP forges ahead with national convention, says APC can’t stop us

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its commitment to hold its 2025 National Convention in Ibadan this weekend, dismissing what it labels as desperate obstruction attempts by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In an official statement, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, firmly denied any postponement, confirming the event will proceed from Saturday, November 15, to Sunday, November 16, 2025. He urged members and the public to disregard “false and misleading” reports, which the PDP alleges are being spread by the APC to create confusion and disrupt its democratic processes.

The PDP characterized the ruling party’s actions as a “failed plot” intended to weaken the opposition ahead of its convention. Ologunagba further accused the APC of a broader scheme to destabilize rival parties and impose a one-party system in Nigeria, vowing that such a design would be “lawfully resisted.”

In a related development, an Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has extended an interim order protecting the PDP’s right to hold its convention without interference.

This order will remain in force until Friday, when the court is scheduled to resume hearings on the substantive case.

This legal protection follows a similar order issued the previous week amid reports of internal and external pressure to halt the convention.
