PDP dissolves 14 state committees, alleges fraud in tax law
The National Working Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has implemented major organizational changes and leveled serious allegations against the government.
The committee dissolved the State Working Committees(SWCs) in 14 states: Borno, Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Ekiti, Bayelsa, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Delta, Taraba, Kano, and Lagos.
It appointed caretaker committees to manage party affairs in these states.
The party affirmed that there is only one legitimate leadership under Acting Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed, dismissing claims that a parallel executive led by Tanimu Turaki had been recognized by the electoral commission (INEC).
Key portfolios were assigned to committee members, and a calendar for state congresses was approved, scheduled to start on January 9, 2026. A date for the national convention will be set after these congresses.
Separately, the PDP issued a strong statement calling for an urgent investigation into what it termed the “fraudulent alteration” of Nigeria’s tax laws.
The party cited allegations by a lawmaker, Abdussamad Dasuki, that the version of the Tax Act gazetted differs from the one passed by the National Assembly.
The PDP warned this poses a grave threat to legislative integrity and demanded the law’s commencement date be postponed by six months for a full probe.
The opposition party also criticized the Tinubu administration’s governance, citing Nigeria’s perceived declining global standing, recent diplomatic incidents, and the President’s absence from a major ECOWAS meeting in Abuja as signs of failing leadership and insecurity.
