PDP Convention Venue, Plans Spark Fresh Crisis

A major crisis is escalating within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the planned venue for its National Elective Convention, exposing significant internal divisions.

The party had announced Ibadan as the host city for its November convention.

However, FCT Minister and influential PDP chieftain, Nyesom Wike, has publicly rejected this, insisting the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) never approved the decision.

Speaking on Channels Television, Wike, a NEC member, stated he was never informed or invited to a meeting where such a resolution was taken.

“NEC has not met… I am not aware of any Convention holding in Ibadan,” he declared, questioning the legitimacy of the announcement.

Political analysts suggest that Wike’s challenge, given his considerable influence, points to profound leadership turmoil within the opposition party.

This rift not only casts doubt on the legitimacy of the Ibadan convention but also threatens to weaken the PDP’s capacity to function as a cohesive and effective opposition.
