Victor Osimhen delivered a stunning performance, scoring a hat-trick to lead Galatasaray to a decisive 3-0 victory over Ajax at the Johan Cruyff Stadium on Wednesday.
The Nigerian striker, who had already found the net in his previous Champions League outings against Liverpool and Bodo/Glimt, continued his exceptional form. After a dominant but goalless first half for Galatasaray, Osimhen broke the deadlock in the 59th minute, powerfully heading in a cross from Leroy Sané.
He doubled the lead just seven minutes later, calmly converting a penalty after a VAR-reviewed handball. Osimhen sealed his remarkable hat-trick with another penalty in the 78th minute, completing the rout before being substituted to applause in the 81st minute.
This treble cemented Osimhen’s place in the club’s history books. He became the first Galatasaray player to score a brace in two consecutive Champions League matches and the first since Burak Yılmaz in 2012 to score a hat-trick in any European competition.
With six goals in just three appearances, Osimhen now sits alone at the top of the Champions League scoring chart, having outscored 14 other teams in the competition this season.
Galatasaray will be counting on him to maintain this incredible form as they progress through their remaining group stage matches.
