Obi’s Running Mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, Says ADC Coalition Untrustworthy, Deceiving Nigerians

Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, has publicly denounced a major opposition coalition, accusing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of misleading Nigerians.

Consequently, he reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to Peter Obi and the Labour Party.

Baba-Ahmed, who spoke during a programme on Channels Television, Politics Today, on Friday, dismissed the ADC-led alliance as untrustworthy.

“They are deceiving us,” he stated emphatically. “I am a Labour Party man, for God’s sake. I am Peter Obi’s man. I still want Peter Obi to come back to the Labour Party and contest in 2027.”

Beyond the internal party dispute, Baba-Ahmed delivered a fierce critique of Nigeria’s electoral process.

He condemned the past actions of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as a “subversion of the constitution,” identifying electoral fraud as the primary source of the nation’s problems.

“Electoral fraud is right now the single most important issue to be addressed in our life as a nation, even beyond insecurity,” he argued.

“Insecurity is derived from electoral fraud. Corruption is aggravated by the kind of electoral fraud that we have.”

He insisted that for the 2027 elections, INEC must prioritize restoring credibility and competence to ensure a transparent process.

In a terse response, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, dismissed the criticism, saying, “When he begins to make sense, we will respond.”

Baba-Ahmed’s outburst underscores the significant fractures and ongoing tensions within Nigeria’s opposition, casting doubt on the unity and viability of alternative political platforms ahead of the next general election.
