Obasanjo Tinubu Govt has failed to secure lives of Nigerians

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has launched a severe critique against the administration of President Bola Tinubu, asserting that it has neglected its most basic obligation, to protect Nigerians.

Speaking at a public event in Jos, Plateau State, Obasanjo declared that the security situation has become so dire that Nigerians are justified in appealing to the international community for protection that their own government cannot provide.

He characterized the relentless violence plaguing the nation as a “national disaster,” stressing that it should not be attributed to any specific region, religion, or ethnic group.

Obasanjo stated that no community should be abandoned to defend itself against attacks.

“The number of deaths shows that the Nigerian government has lost control of its primary duty, which is the protection of its people,” he said.

“If our government cannot do it, we have the right to call on the international community to do for us what our government cannot.”

The former leader also dismissed narratives that attempt to minimize the crisis by linking it to particular tribes or regions. He insisted that the loss of any Nigerian life should be a matter of national concern, and that such justifications are unacceptable.

Reflecting on his own tenure, Obasanjo revealed that security agencies already possessed the capability to locate criminals anywhere in the country.

The limitation at the time, he explained, was the inability to neutralize these threats without physically deploying troops.

He then questioned the current government’s strategy, asking why, with modern technology like precision drones available, the administration opts for negotiations and apologies instead of decisive action.

“Why are we not doing that? Why are we apologising? Why are we negotiating?” he asked.

Obasanjo’s comments amplify the mounting criticism of the government’s handling of the nation’s persistent security challenges.
