Obama: I’m proud to call Joe Biden my president
Former US President Barack Obama praised US President Joe Biden for his “decency, resilience, and unshakeable belief.”
It was not the US President that the world had witnessed over the years who took centre stage at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. As opposed to earlier, Joe Biden, with hands on the podium, stood a little straighter and tried to hold back the tears as everyone stood up in a rousing ovation. The moment was overwhelming for anyone to not get emotional, and so was former US President Barack Obama, who shared the clip on his official X handle.
Calling President Biden by his first name, Obama said, “What I admire most about Joe is his decency, his resilience, and his unshakeable belief in the promise of our country. Over the last four years, those are the values America has needed most.”
“I am proud to call him my president, and I’m so grateful to call him my friend,” he added.
Biden delivered a fiery speech on the opening night of the Democratic National Convention. Slamming Republican nominee Donald Trump, Biden said he is nothing but a “loser.”
“Donald Trump calls America a failing nation,” Biden said, and added, “He says we’re losing. He’s the loser; he’s dead wrong.”
Joe Biden, who stepped aside from running for re-election, said that America is “winning” and the world is “better off for it,” adding that Trump continues to “lie” about matters such as crime and immigration.
Biden also praised his successor (in party) Kamala Harris and stated, “Are you ready to vote for freedom? Are you ready to vote for democracy and for America? Let me ask you, Are you ready to elect Kamala Harris and Tim Walz?”
