Nurse detained over Mohbad’s treatment not our member, NANNM insists
The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has disowned the suspected nurse who injected late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad, saying she was not a registered member of their association.
The Lagos State chapter of the association, on Saturday, described the suspect as an ‘auxiliary nurse.’
Thr nurses insisted that “the individual reportedly taken into custody by the police for providing care to Mohbad is not a registered nurse.”
“In Nigeria, to be recognised as a Nurse, one must complete a rigorous five-year Bachelor of Nursing Science program at a university, followed by an additional year of internship.
“Alternatively, one can undergo training at an accredited School/College of Nursing and become registered and licensed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria,” the association explained.
The father of Mohbad, James Aloba, had narrated how those close to the late singer, hours leading to his death, had called an auxiliary nurse to inject him for an undisclosed nature of ailment.
The association urged news outlets to always verify the qualifications and professional status of individuals before labelling them as healthcare professionals.
The association, which expressed condolences to the family and associates of the late musician, said it fully supports the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death and urged the relevant authorities to leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of justice for him.
