Notorious bandit commander Kachalla Sani Yellow killed in Zamfara Ambush, hybrid forces parade body

Hybrid security forces operating in Nigeria’s North-West have neutralised Kachalla Sani Yellow, a high-profile bandit kingpin blamed for waves of killings, kidnappings, cattle rustling, and sexual violence across Zamfara State, in a targeted intelligence-led ambush in Anka Local Government Area.

According to report, the operation occurred after local intelligence pinpointed Sani Yellow at a market where he had gone to collect proceeds from stolen livestock and negotiate ransom payments.

The hybrid team—comprising local volunteers and reformed former insurgents working alongside security agencies—swiftly intercepted and killed him in a gun duel before he could escape.

A widely circulated video shows the hybrid forces tying the warlord’s mutilated body to a motorcycle and dragging it along a roadway in a victory procession.

The Zamfara State Police spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the killing.

Sani Yellow, described as one of the most influential bandit commanders operating across Anka, Bukkuyum, and Maru LGAs—and a relative of the late Kachalla Yellow Danbokolo, killed in 2025—allegedly orchestrated coordinated raids that displaced thousands. Community sources also accused him of ordering the sexual assault of female captives whose families could not pay ransoms.

Security analysts view his death as a major blow to criminal networks in Zamfara, Katsina, and Sokoto, but warn of possible reprisals.

A senior defence intelligence source confirmed that troops have heightened surveillance in affected communities to deter retaliatory attacks and protect civilians.
