NNPP disowns planned INEC protest, labels organizers as “impostors”

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), under the leadership of Ajuji Ahmed, has formally disassociated itself from a scheduled protest against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The demonstration, set for Tuesday at INEC’s headquarters in Abuja and at state offices, was declared “illegal” by the party.

In a statement on Monday, the NNPP’s National Publicity Secretary, Bamofin Ladipo Johnson, asserted that the party is not involved and that the organizers are not its members.

Johnson cited an April 18, 2024, judgment by Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which affirmed the expulsion of these individuals from the NNPP.

He stated they have not appealed the ruling but continue to seek court orders “that have no foundations in law,” a practice he described as their “trademark.”

The statement emphasized that the NNPP is not a party to the protest and categorically labeled the persons behind it as “impostors.”

It called on party members to remain calm and not be distracted by what it termed provocations from these elements.
