NNPP Apologizes to Tinubu, Disowns Kwankwaso Over Verbal Attacks

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has issued an apology to President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) following recent verbal attacks made by its former presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso. The party also distanced itself from Kwankwaso, stating that he has been expelled and should no longer be associated with the NNPP.
In a statement released on Sunday in Lagos, the NNPP’s National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Oginni Olaposi, clarified that Kwankwaso’s comments do not reflect the party’s stance. He emphasized that the NNPP has formally cut ties with Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasiya Movement.
“We unreservedly apologize to President Tinubu and the APC leadership, led by Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, for the unwarranted insults and derogatory remarks made by Kwankwaso,” Olaposi said.
He further stated that Kwankwaso’s expulsion from the NNPP remains in effect, as confirmed by several court rulings, including a recent judgment by the Abuja High Court on April 3. Olaposi urged Kwankwaso to cease presenting himself as an NNPP member and using the party’s platform to criticize the APC and the presidency.
“Kwankwaso was expelled long ago and should introspect rather than blame others for his followers defecting to the APC,” Olaposi added.
The NNPP reaffirmed its commitment to constructive politics under the leadership of its founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, who is known for respecting constituted authorities. Olaposi stressed that Kwankwaso’s remarks were personal opinions and not endorsed by the party.
The party also called on the media and the public to stop linking Kwankwaso to the NNPP, stating, “He leads the Kwankwasiya Movement, not our party.”
