Nnamdi Kanu bows to court, begins defence in terrorism trial

In a significant shift, Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the pro-Biafra movement, has begun presenting his defence against terrorism charges filed by the Federal Government.

This move comes after he complied with an order from the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The court proceedings were adapted to facilitate this step.

Justice James Omotosho temporarily relocated the court’s registry to his courtroom to allow Kanu’s legal team to file the necessary documents directly.

This followed previous complaints from Kanu about the process.

The government’s counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo, informed the court that he would accept the legal filings from Kanu within the courtroom and would prepare a formal response.

To accommodate the ongoing filing process, Justice Omotosho has paused the proceedings for one hour.

Until now, Kanu had consistently refused to mount a defence, demanding that the government first show him the specific anti-terrorism law he is accused of breaking.
