NLNG’s Train-7 Project 67% completed, to employ over 9,000 Nigerians

The $4.3 billion gas Train-7 project of the
Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) has reached 67% completion.
At completion, it will employ over 9,000 Nigerians and will also increase NLNG’s production capacity from 22 million metric tons per annum (mtpa) to 30 mtpa.
A statement by Andy Odeh, NLNG’s General Manager of External Relations and Sustainable Development, highlighted the achievement of over 45 million man-hours of construction without any Lost Time Injury (LTI).
According to him, ”The Train-7 project, located at Bonny Island in Rivers State, is being executed by the SCD consortium, which includes Saipem, Chiyoda, and Daewoo, with Saipem as the lead contractor.
”The expansion is set to deliver significant economic benefits to Nigeria, including job creation and support for local businesses.
”The Train-7 project is not only a critical step for NLNG in expanding its production capabilities but also a significant contributor to Nigeria’s economic growth and energy sector development.”
In a session with the Senate and House of Representatives Joint Committee on Gas, NLNG officials provided updates and clarifications on the project, highlighting the project’s strategic importance in monetizing Nigeria’s gas resources, estimated at over 200 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of proven reserves, and supporting the country’s energy transition goals.
NLNG said the Train-7 project aligns with Nigeria’s “Decade of Gas” initiative, which aims to enhance gas monetization and utilization as part of the broader strategy to secure the nation’s energy future amidst the global shift towards a net-zero future.
The company expressed its commitment to working with the National Assembly and other stakeholders to ensure the successful completion of the project.
Also, the joint National Assembly panel said NLNG should maintain its schedule and continue fostering an environment conducive to attracting more transformational projects to Nigeria.
