Nine deaths confirmed from cholera outbreak in Rivers
Five cases of cholera and nine associated deaths have been confirmed in Rivers State in an outbreak that has affected two Local Government Areas of the state.
Indeed, the Local Government Areas which are affected are Akuku-Toru and Andoni.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh, who confirmed the cases, said the nine associated fatalities were reported across both Akuku-Toru and Andoni LGAs.
She said the ministry has activated emergency response teams in the affected areas to contain the outbreak and prevent further spread.
The state government said sensitization has been increased across the state to educate residents on preventive measures.
The Commissioner highlighted the importance of maintaining hygiene and promptly reporting suspected cases to health authorities.
Parents are advised to cooperate with health teams as they work to mitigate the impact of the outbreak.
Residents in the affected communities are also told to ensure proper sanitation, drink only safe water, and seek medical attention immediately if they experience symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, or dehydration.
