Nigeria’s National Grid restored after partial system disturbance originates in Gombe

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has confirmed the full restoration of the national grid following a partial system disturbance that occurred on Tuesday morning.

In a statement issued Tuesday evening, NISO reported that the grid experienced a voltage disturbance originating at the Gombe Transmission Substation around 10:48 a.m.

This disturbance spread rapidly, affecting the Jebba, Kainji, and Ayede transmission substations and causing the tripping of several transmission lines and generating units.

The operator clarified that the event resulted in a partial system collapse, not a total grid collapse as reported elsewhere.

Corrective actions were swiftly implemented, with restoration efforts beginning by 11:11 a.m. and power supply across affected areas returning to normal.

This incident marks the second such system disturbance leading to widespread outages in less than five days.

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) confirmed that power restoration from the grid had resumed, though with a limited initial allocation.

The company stated its feeders were being restored gradually and asked customers for patience.
