The advisory, announced in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, also urged Nigerians residing in Australia to exercise heightened caution.

Signed by the acting spokesman, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the statement highlighted cases of discrimination, harassment, and verbal abuse directed at foreigners in Australia. Concerns about antisemitism and Islamophobia were also raised, despite Australia’s reputation for multiculturalism and tolerance.

The advisory specifically referenced a December incident in Woollahra, Sydney, underscoring the need for Nigerians to be aware of Australia’s cultural and social dynamics to ensure their safety and comfort.

The Nigerian government advised those who encounter or witness racist attacks or harassment to contact the Nigerian High Commission in Canberra immediately.
