The Federal Government has announced that it is completing arrangements to evacuate Nigerian citizens trapped in Israel and Iran following the recent surge in hostilities between the two nations.

In a statement on Tuesday night by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the government confirmed that Nigerian embassies in Tel Aviv and Tehran are actively engaging with affected citizens to facilitate their safe return.

Stranded Nigerians have been advised to strictly follow local security measures and register with the nearest Nigerian Embassy or Mission for further directives.

The ministry praised the efforts of diplomatic staff in both countries and reassured the public of the government’s dedication to protecting its citizens abroad. It also highlighted ongoing cooperation with international partners and local authorities to ensure a swift and secure evacuation process.

The statement stated that, “The Federal Government is finalising emergency evacuation plans for Nigerians stranded in Israel and Iran due to the escalating crisis. Affected citizens are urged to comply with security protocols and contact our embassies for assistance. We commend our missions for their relentless efforts and assure Nigerians that their safety remains a top priority.”

Also, Nigeria renewed its call for an immediate ceasefire, urging Israel and Iran to pursue dialogue, respect international humanitarian law, and prioritise civilian safety.

The government reiterated its commitment to peaceful conflict resolution and global stability.

“Nigeria urges an end to hostilities and encourages diplomatic solutions. We stand firm in our support for peace and the protection of innocent lives,” the ministry added.

Further updates on the evacuation will be communicated through official channels.

Only last Friday, Israel conducted large-scale airstrikes on Iran, targeting nuclear and military sites and killing high-ranking Iranian officials, including General Mohammad Bagheri and IRGC Commander Hossein Salami. Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, condemned the attacks as a “declaration of war,” vowing a severe response.
