
Niger Republic: Tinubu writes Senate, seeks support to deploy soldiers

President Bola Tinubu has indicated his intention to deploy Nigerian soldiers in Niger Republic.
In a letter written to the Senate on Friday, President Tinubu is seeking support for military intervention in Niger Republic.
The letter was read at plenary by the Senate president, Godswill Akpabio.
The president also demanded a total blockade of the sea and air routes to the country following the military coup.
The military overthrew the democratically elected government in Niger Republic a few weeks ago.
It also seized assets of all politically exposed and senior persons of the government of NigerRepublic in the country based on the ECOWAS resolution.
President Tinubu had also sent a high-powered delegation to the country to meet with the coup leaders on Thursday.
The delegation led by General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd) only met with representatives of the junta.
There is already cutting of electricity supply to Niger Republic, apart from blockade of goods in transit to country, especially from Lagos and eastern seaports.
ECOWAS has not ruled out the military option should tbe military leaders become intransigent in relinquishing power and returning the country to democratic rule.
