Latest weekly COVID-19 situation report by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has shown that 84 deaths were recorded last week (Feb. 15th to 21st, 2021) in 19 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Cumulatively, since the outbreak began in February, 2020, there have been 1,839 deaths reported with a case fatality rate (CFR) of 1.2 per cent.
The report further revealed that last week, the number of new confirmed cases decreased to 5,720 from 6,606 reported the previous week. These were reported in 35 states and FCT. Also, as reported in 29 states and the FCT, the number of discharged cases decreased to 7,475 from 7,668.
Also, the number of in-bound international travelers at Nigerian airports was 11,786 compared with 12,848 between Feb. 8th to 14th, 2021. The number of international travelers with a positive result was 188 compared to 199 two weeks ago.
Globally, the count for confirmed COVID-19 cases is 112,209,815 with 2,490,776 deaths.
The NCDC continues to urge Nigerians to continue to comply with the non-pharmaceutical measures of physical distancing, regular hand washing, use of hand sanitisers, observance of respiratory hygiene, avoiding crowded places and above all, wearing appropriate face masks that also cover the noses.
