NCC’s Maida hails Nigeria’s digital leap, pledges reforms to drive telecom growth
The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Aminu Maida, has reaffirmed the Commission’s steadfast dedication to accelerating Nigeria’s digital evolution.
Speaking at the recently held Enugu Tech Festival—which he characterized as a dynamic exhibition of ingenuity and a testament to the nation’s advancing digital footprint—Maida stated that the gathering created a vital space for stakeholders to engage with cutting-edge technologies and solidify Nigeria’s standing within the global digital marketplace.
Emphasizing the nation’s vast potential, the NCC chief noted that Nigeria is strategically poised to achieve global competitiveness, underpinned by a resilient and adaptive regulatory environment. He stressed that consistent sectoral reforms and carefully crafted policies would continue to spur advancement and creativity within the telecommunications industry.
Reflecting on key takeaways from the festival, Maida extended commendations to Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah for his progressive digital acceleration strategy, describing the governor’s efforts as crucial to advancing the country’s wider digital objectives.
“The rapid expansion of telecommunications is no accident—it is the outcome of deliberate reforms, well-structured policies, and institutional mechanisms designed to encourage competition, draw investment, and safeguard consumer interests,” Maida remarked.
On the regulatory front, he revealed that the NCC, in partnership with key industry players, is undertaking a review of the National Telecommunications Policy of 2000. The goal, he explained, is to craft a more inclusive, consumer-centric framework that aligns with contemporary technological trends and ensures the sector’s long-term sustainability.
Maida further applauded the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, as championed by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani. He highlighted that Nigeria now boasts over 179 million active mobile lines—a milestone he attributed to forward-thinking leadership and purposeful reforms within the sector.
