The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) have officially inaugurated the NCC–REA Collaboration Committee, a strategic initiative aimed at accelerating renewable energy adoption to power telecom infrastructure across Nigeria.

The committee, inaugurated on Friday, 27th June 2025, at the NCC Headquarters in Abuja, marks a critical milestone in advancing Nigeria’s digital and energy inclusion goals. The event was led by Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of NCC, and Abba Abubakar Aliyu, Managing Director of REA, alongside senior officials from both agencies.

Dr. Maida emphasized that the partnership aligns with national priorities, addressing connectivity and power gaps in rural and underserved communities. He highlighted the symbiotic relationship between telecom infrastructure and renewable energy, noting that reliable power is essential for optimal telecom operations while digital expansion drives energy demand.

“This initiative goes beyond infrastructure—it’s about fostering inclusion, reducing inequalities, and creating opportunities for shared prosperity,” Maida stated. “By powering base stations and enabling access to digital services, we are supporting President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, ensuring no community is left behind.”

REA’s Managing Director, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, echoed this optimism, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to collaborating with NCC to deliver sustainable energy solutions for underserved populations.

The newly formed committee will focus on:
– Developing integrated renewable energy solutions for telecom sites.
– Sharing geospatial data for improved infrastructure planning.
– Aligning funding frameworks for project execution.
– Tracking socio-economic impact through measurable indicators.

This partnership is expected to serve as a model for inter-agency cooperation, driving progress in line with Nigeria’s **National Broadband Plan** and broader sustainable development goals.
