NCC, Industry Leaders to Chart Path for Telecom Sustainability, CNII Act Implementation at Landmark Conference
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), alongside key industry players such as IHS Towers, Digital Realty, and 9mobile Nigeria, join forces at the maiden CNII & Telecom Sustainability Conference 2025 to shape the future of Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.
Organized by the Nigeria Information Technology Association (NITRA) and the Association of Licensed Telecom Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), the event takes place on August 7, 2025, in Lagos.
The conference, with the theme: “Telecoms Industry Sustainability and the CNII Act – Way Forward,” features insights from the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, as well as stakeholders from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Peace Corps of Nigeria.
Discussion focuses on infrastructure security, stakeholder responsibilities, and the practical execution of the Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII) Presidential Order.
IHS Towers leads discourse on Nigeria’s infrastructure status, while a panel session explores “Role Expectations of Stakeholders in Implementing the CNII Act.”
Keynote addresses will be delivered by NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida, and the President of the Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria (ATCON).
The CNII Order 2024, an extension of the Cybercrimes Act 2015, designates critical systems like telecom networks, financial platforms, and power grids as protected national assets, aiming to minimize disruptions.
Key discussion points at the event will include:
– Ensuring effective implementation of the CNII Order
– Roles of federal/state governments, operators, and consumers in compliance
– Telecom operators’ adoption of CNII provisions
– Regulators’ responsibility in enforcing public adherence
– Security, collaboration, and public awareness of CNII policies
– Strategies for sustaining telecom growth in Nigeria
According to NITRA’s General Secretary, Mr. Chidiebere Nwankwo, the conference offers a crucial platform for stakeholders to assess progress, refine strategies, and drive the CNII Order’s objectives forward.
ALTON Chairman, Engr. Gbenga Adebayo, and NITRA Chairman, Mr. Chike Onwuegbuchi, will welcome attendees, reinforcing the industry’s commitment to collaborative progress and sustainable development.
ALTON serves as the official private-sector body for Nigeria’s telecom service providers, ensuring industry-wide alignment on policy and innovation.
