The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has inaugurated a cutting-edge ICT Park at the University of Ibadan (UI), marking a major step in Nigeria’s digital transformation efforts.

Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, described the facility as a hub for innovation, research, and entrepreneurship in the Southwest.

Represented by Engr. Abraham Osadami, Head of Technical Standards at NCC, Maida emphasized that the park would serve as a center for emerging technologies, fostering digital solutions tailored to Nigeria’s needs.

Osadami highlighted the strategic selection of UI, citing its legacy in education and research. “This campus is more than a learning institution—it’s a catalyst for societal change,” he said.

The ICT Park, equipped with advanced computing resources, collaborative workspaces, and smart networking systems, aims to support innovations in AI, IoT, and other digital fields.

The project is part of NCC’s nationwide initiative to enhance digital infrastructure. Osadami urged students, faculty, and the Oyo State community to maximize the facility’s potential, calling it a “spark for a digital revolution.”

UI Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, praised the NCC’s contribution, stating that the ICT Park would bridge the digital divide and revolutionize education.

“This investment secures Nigeria’s future in the global digital economy,” he said.

The facility includes a 100-seat hall, multiple ICT hubs, collaborative workspaces, and administrative offices, positioning UI as a leader in tech-driven research and innovation.
