NCC boss, Maida, charges stakeholders on collaborative efforts against cyber threats
The Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr Aminu Maida, has reinforced the importance of a robust cybersecurity framework to ensure the safety of Nigeria’s telecom sector.
Maida, who emphasised that all stakeholders in the sector must join hands to achieve this, spoke during the yearly Cybersecurity Conference 2024, held in Abuja.
The NCC boss stressed the need for collaborative efforts to safeguard the country’s telecommunications infrastructure from increasing cyber threats.
Maida highlighted the vital role of telecom infrastructure in Nigeria’s socio-economic growth.
According to him “Our telecommunications infrastructure is not only a critical national asset, but also a key enabler of economic development.”
Consequently, he said “securing this infrastructure against cyber threats is a collective responsibility.”
He warned about the potential consequences of neglecting cybersecurity in the face of rising sophistication of cyberattacks globally.
He charged stakeholders to take proactive steps to mitigate these risks.
“We must not underestimate the importance of collaboration. It is only through collective action, partnerships, and the sharing of information that we can ensure our telecom systems remain secure,” he insisted.
Indeed, the conference featured various industry experts, government officials, and private sector stakeholders, who discussed strategies to combat cyber threats in Nigeria’s telecom ecosystem.
