National Council on Climate Change Launches Initiative to Tackle Global Warming in Katsina
The National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), in collaboration with Atmosfair and Climate Sustainability, has introduced the ‘Save80 Clean Cookstoves’ initiative in Katsina state.
The project aims to address the challenges of global warming, climate change, and deforestation by providing an alternative to traditional cooking methods that rely on firewood.
Dr. Salisu Dahiru, the Director-General of the NCCC, emphasized the link between deforestation and global warming. He stated that the Save80 Clean Cookstoves initiative would have a significant impact on reducing deforestation and mitigating the effects of climate change.
The Save80 Clean Cookstoves unveiled in Katsina are designed to decrease the indiscriminate felling of trees for firewood, thereby curbing deforestation. The initiative also aims to protect users from the harmful effects of smoke inhalation and reduce carbon emissions.
Mr Kingsley Nwahuba, a council director, highlighted the NCCC’s role in formulating policies related to climate change activities in the country.
The initiative aligns with promoting renewable energy, decarbonising industries, and introducing efficient household appliances.
Musa Lawal, the Manager for Business Development of Atmosfair and Climate Sustainability, explained that the Save80 Clean Cookstoves were invented to combat global warming.
The stoves feature two pots, emit less smoke, and save firewood by 80%, reducing desertification.
The NCCC, Atmosfair, and Climate Sustainability collaboration underscores the collective effort to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable practices in Nigeria.
