NAFDAC says Nestlé baby formula in Nigeria safe, unaffected by global recall
NAFDAC has reassured the Nigerian public that all Nestlé infant formulas approved for sale in the country are safe and not included in the recent global recall.
The agency explained that the recalled batches from the UK were never authorized for distribution in Nigeria and were withdrawn as a precaution due to potential contamination with cereulide, a toxin that may cause nausea and vomiting.
The agency confirmed that SMA products sold in Nigeria are manufactured in Singapore and are properly registered with NAFDAC, as are the NAN products for the local market.
NAFDAC emphasized its ongoing oversight through product registration, surveillance, and monitoring to protect public health.
NAFDAC advised consumers to rely on official information, avoid unauthorized imports, and report any recalled products or adverse effects via its helpline (0800-162-3322) or e-reporting channels.
