NAFDAC confirms recalled Indomie noodles not sold in Nigeria, steps up surveillance

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has reassured Nigerians that the Indomie Noodles Vegetable Flavour recently recalled in France over undeclared allergens is neither produced in Nigeria nor approved for sale in the country.

The agency’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, stated that the product in question is not registered with NAFDAC and does not originate from Nigeria.

She clarified that noodles are included on the Federal Government’s Import Prohibition List, which bans their legal importation.

The recall in France followed the detection of undeclared milk and egg ingredients, which could pose risks to consumers with allergies or intolerances.

NAFDAC has now heightened nationwide surveillance and instructed its zonal directors and state coordinators to monitor markets closely and remove any affected products if found.

The Ports Inspection Directorate is also on alert to prevent smuggling of the recalled noodles.

Adeyeye emphasized that all approved noodle brands in Nigeria are manufactured locally and comply with strict Good Manufacturing Practice standards.

She advised the public to remain vigilant, discard the product if discovered, and report any sightings through NAFDAC’s toll-free line (0800-162-3322) or e-reporting channels.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to public safety, noting that these measures also aim to protect Nigerians who may purchase food items abroad or online.
