NAF promotes 38 senior officers to Wing Commander rank to boost leadership, combat readiness

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) decorated 38 senior officers with the rank of Wing Commander on Friday, a move designed to reinforce its leadership structure and improve combat readiness across all operational theatres.

The promotion ceremony took place at the NAF Officers’ Mess in Abuja and was hailed as a tribute to discipline, professionalism, and consistent excellence in service.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal SK Aneke—represented by the Chief of Administration at NAF Headquarters, Air Vice Marshal AA Martins—stated that the elevation acknowledges the officers’ readiness to take on higher command responsibilities amid an increasingly complex security environment.

He emphasized that today’s security challenges require officers who are adaptable, decisive, and mission-oriented.

He said confidence that the newly promoted wing commanders will strengthen command effectiveness and help maintain the momentum of ongoing air operations across the country.

According to the air chief, the officers have shown sound judgment, leadership ability, and dedication to duty—traits essential for mission success. He also stressed that leadership transcends rank, urging the officers to uphold integrity, courage, and the capacity to inspire their subordinates while advancing national security objectives.

Earlier, the Commander of Headquarters NAF Camp Abuja, Air Commodore Imoke, noted that the promotion represents both an achievement and a call to even greater responsibility. He charged the officers to carry their new rank with humility, professionalism, and a strong sense of accountability, in line with the service’s core values.

The event was attended by senior military officers, family members, and well-wishers, underscoring the significance of the milestone in strengthening the Nigerian Air Force’s leadership cadre and operational effectiveness.

Dele Fashomi is now the Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Newstide247.com newspaper online, which he started in July 2015. He is also into biography writing, with many books in his trail, some of which he wrote alone and one he co- authored with his mentor, Mr Dare Babarinsa, entitled:  Olabiyi Durojaiye – DARE TO BE DiFFERENT. He also guided and collaborated with Pa Olatunji Odusanya in writing his autobiography – AGAINST ALL ODDS. There are many other books in the works under his pen.
