Monday Okpebholo sworn in as new Edo governor

The newly elected Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has been sworn on Tuesday.
Okpebholo took the Oath of office administered by the Edo State Chief Judge, Justice Daniel Okubowa, at 11:55 GMT on Tuesday.
Shortly before the Governor was sworn in, the Deputy Governor of the State, Dennis Idahosa, was sworn in first.
The swearing in ceremony was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Tinubu.
State Governors in attendance include Abdulerazaq Abdulrahman of Kwara State, Hope Uzidinma of Imo State, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State.
Okpebholo succeeds Godwin Obaseki, who governed the state from November 2016 to 12th November 2024.
Okpebholo, who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is a Senator from the state.
He defeated Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the September 21 election, gaining 291,667 votes to Ighodalo’s 247,274.
