France international striker, Kylian Mbappe, concluded that his Euro 2024 campaign was a failure after Le Bleus lost 1-2 to Spain in the semi-final on Tuesday night.

Mbappe spoke to the media immediately after the match, saying the competition was difficult as he had the ambition to become a European champion but it didn’t happen.

He said it has been a long year for him and he will now embark on a holiday to get some rest which will do him a lot of good as he hopes to come back stronger.

According to him, “My competition? It was difficult. It was a failure. We had the ambition to be European champions; I had the ambition to be European champions. We aren’t that, so it’s a failure.

“It’s football. We have to move on. It’s been a long year. I’m going to go on holiday and get some rest — that’ll do me a lot of good, and I’ll try and come back strongly.”

After France’s devastating last-four defeat, Mbappe had another Euros campaign to forget. He is now getting ready to take a rest before starting his career at the Bernabeu.

Only last month, Mbappe signed a five-year contract with Real Madrid worth £12.8 million a year after taxes; the 25-year-old will receive a signing-on bonus of slightly over £85 million from Real. Kylian Mbappe cost Paris Saint-Germain £166 million in 2018 but left on a free transfer after his contract expired.
