Manchester United beat Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield

Manchester United have beaten Liverpool at Anfield for the first time since 2016, thanks to Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire.

It was a dream start for Manchester United and Ruben Amorim, as with less than two minutes on the clock, the deadlock was broken.

Bryan Mbeumo scored the opener, converting Amad’s pass on a quick break brilliantly to stun Anfield.

United had chances to go further ahead, while Liverpool hit the post numerous times before Cody Gakpo scored to make it 1-1.

Minutes later, United reclaimed the lead as Harry Maguire headed home Bruno Fernandes’ cross to take a 2-1 lead.

United held out for a deserved win, and here are five things we learned from the game.

Despite costing £66m, Mbeumo has already proven himself to be worth every penny as he has oozed class this season for Manchester United.

After scoring against Liverpool, Mbeumo now has three goals and an assist in all competitions, which is a very solid start considering the early performances the Red Devils had.

Last season, Maguire could have claimed victory for Manchester United when he missed a shot with the last kick of the game.

Now this season, he has come in clutch for Amorim, scoring the winner against Liverpool with a trademark Maguire headed goal.

There were questions as to why he was starting pre-game, but the Englishman answered these doubts with a stellar performance.

Amorim simply had to start Senne Lammens here after his debut performance, and the Belgian was once again so impressive at Anfield.
