The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended Wasiu Akinwande, alias Olori Eso, a 44-year-old alleged hired killer described as one of the most dangerous criminals in Lagos in recent years.

Akinwande was arrested in a strategic operation dubbed ‘Silence, Speed, and Surprise’ at his hideout in Agbado, Ogun State.

According to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Command’s spokesperson, the suspect—long wanted for terrorizing Mushin and surrounding areas—had evaded capture for years before being tracked down.

“Wasiu Akinwande, the most vicious and sought-after hired assassin in Lagos in recent history, has been arrested, along with a recovery of nine firearms, ammunition, and other weapons,” Hundeyin stated.

The suspect is believed to have led multiple armed gangs in crimes spanning over a decade, including murder, cult clashes, armed robbery, and kidnappings.

“His arrest marks a critical breakthrough in our fight against violent crimes endangering residents in Mushin and beyond,” Hundeyin added.

A raid on Akinwande’s residence yielded an arsenal, including:

– Two AK-47 rifles

– One K2 assault rifle

– Three pump-action guns

– Two locally made pistols

– Over 150 rounds of ammunition

– Daggers, walkie-talkies, and nine international passports

Police say Akinwande confessed to using the weapons for criminal operations. His alleged crimes have left lasting trauma on victims’ families, with four already identifying him as their loved ones’ killer.

However, Lagos Commissioner of Police, CP Moshood Jimoh, has ordered an expanded manhunt for Akinwande’s accomplices, led by the Deputy Commissioner of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

Meanwhile, the suspect remains in custody under heavy security and will face prosecution.
