Kwankwaso: Nigerians Have Decided on 2027 Due to Severe From Poverty, Insists NNPP True Alternative to APC
Former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has declared that Nigerians have already reached a consensus for the 2027 elections, driven by widespread “severe” poverty, hardship, and insecurity.
Speaking at a New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) national executive council meeting in Abuja, Kwankwaso painted a grim picture of the national mood. He stated that many citizens cannot afford food, are displaced from their homes, or are unable to access healthcare.
“The people in this country, I can assure you, have made a decision on what to do in 2027,” he asserted. “That is why we are so pleased with ourselves, because we are with the people.”
Amid speculation about opposition alliances, Kwankwaso cautioned his party members against being distracted by defections and coalition talks from other politicians, suggesting that those switching parties “understand little” and should “come and ask us” for guidance.
He then contrasted the current national situation with his record in Kano, highlighting his administration’s policies of free education from primary to tertiary levels and a scholarship program that sent over 3,000 students abroad, including over 100 to train as pilots. He also credited his experience as a former defence minister for making Kano “an island of security” during the peak of the Boko Haram insurgency.
Framing the NNPP as the authentic alternative, Kwankwaso insisted that the country’s deep-rooted problems cannot be solved by the existing political establishment.
Echoing the theme of external interest, the NNPP National Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed, confirmed that the party is under “enormous pressure” to clarify its position for the 2027 elections. He acknowledged inquiries from diaspora members and international organisations but stated that while the party’s direction is clearer, it requires more time before making final decision.
