Kenneth Omeruo reflects on Nigeria’s 0-2 loss to Mali
Nigerian defender Kenneth Omeruo has reflected on the Super Eagles’ 0-2 loss to Mali in a friendly match played in Marrakech, Morocco on Tuesday night.
The Super Eagles lost the game after conceding two goals in each half by El Bilal Toure and Kamory Doumbia sealing the win for Mali.
While reflecting on the friendly game which handed Mali their first game against Nigeria in 49 years, Omeruo said that the Super Eagles deserved more from the game.
“I think we played a better second half, it wasn’t a bad game, we just didn’t take our chances and they scored two goals. Overall, I think we played a good game,” Omeruo told NFF TV.
“I think it was good outing for us, fantastic spirit. The players that were here gave their best. We just couldn’t score in the game.”
The Super Eagles will now shift attention to the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against South Africa in June.
Unnamed English club makes verbal inquiry to sign Victor Boniface
An unnamed English Premier League (EPL) team has reportedly made a verbal inquiry to sign lethal Super Eagles and Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface.
This was revealed in a German report by Sky, which states that although Leverkusen would be open to speaking with clubs in the event that offers over £47.5 million were presented this summer, the club would prefer to keep Boniface.
Boniface, who has scored 16 goals in 23 appearances in all competitions this season, is back to training after recovering from a groin injury that led to his missing the 2023 AFCON.
His German team, which sits atop the German Bundesliga, is glad to have him back at this crucial juncture, as they have important matches in both the domestic Cup and the Europa League.
Leverkusen have celebrated the return of their top scorer to full fitness, as the Nigerian international was pictured in training with his teammates on Monday.
“And @boniface_jrn is working hard on the comeback! We like the look!” the club wrote on their X account.
