The Kebbi State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has refuted viral reports claiming it rejected a ₦30 million donation from the state government, clarifying that the funds were official support for a religious event, not personal gifts.

In a statement issued by State CAN Chairman Venerable Ayyuba Kanta, the association explained that the ₦30 million was allocated for the Kebbi State Healing and Deliverance Crusade, a two-day event co-organized by CAN and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) in Birnin Kebbi. The crusade featured renowned preacher Pastor Dr. Paul Enenche as the guest minister.

CAN emphasized that Pastor Enenche, adhering to his personal policy of not accepting monetary gifts during ministry engagements, directed that the funds be repurposed. Consequently, the money is being used to construct a perimeter fence at a newly approved Christian cemetery—a project endorsed by Governor Nasir Idris.

The association expressed gratitude to the state government for its support, including access to the state stadium for the crusade, the Presidential Lodge banquet hall for ministerial meetings, and the distribution of palliatives to students and women during the event.

Venerable Kanta described Governor Idris as “a jolly friend of Christians and CAN leadership,” reaffirming the cordial relationship between the Christian community and the state government. CAN urged the public to disregard misleading reports and acknowledge the successful collaboration behind the crusade.

The statement concluded by reiterating CAN’s commitment to transparency and appreciation for the government’s partnership in fostering religious harmony in Kebbi State.
